"The person say it cannot be done. Should not interrupt the person doing it." Chinese Proverb (Thanks Owen for sharing)
"There are 1900+ new top level domain (TLD) extensions to go live this year that will change the world uses the web. People will have the option of choosing memorable and intuitive domain names specific to their ventures. New TLDs help consumers know what to expect from the websites they visit, or making it easier to find sites relevant to them." from Company.Guru website.
It's a new opportunity, new business for us. But I also believe that domains are not created equal, some will fail but some will succeed. In every small business, budget is always tight so keep it under control.
I launched Company.Guru for marketing our services yesterday, received a few registrations already. Nice return of investment for a marketing page. If you registered a .GURU through NeedName.com let me now so I can add your link to the Company.Guru advertising page.
And for my personal blog, I am nowhere close to a GURU but I registered anyway because the dot com is a million to purchase. I'm happy happy happy :) For consultant like me. Now, I have more options to offer to my clients. The dot com is a preferred choice, but if budget is limited we have so many alternative that makes sense. It is up to the customer to decide.
I always use the facebook experience. When they started, they used TheFacebook.com domain name because of limited funding at that time. Now they make billions, they bought and re-brand to use Facebook.com. Not contented and because they have so much money they also decided to purchased FB.com for millions.
Entrepreneurs/small business can start with a long dot com domain name or a short dot whatever extention as long as the domain name support the online reputation of the business, and serve its objectives. If the business prosper, then it will be easy for them to re-brand.
